At some point yesterday I came to the conclusion (again) that yes, you can choose to trust people. But even then, yes, they sometimes let you down. My conclusion was this: trust can only safely be put in God Himself. Not that we shouldn't choose to trust people. But that even if those people let us down, there is Someone much bigger and stronger and faithful behind them that will never let us down, never betray trust, never give us cause to doubt Him. And that's where I'm safe. Safe even in choosing to trust people who have the potential to hurt me and betray trust. Because I know HE won't. And even if - God forbid! - someone I love should betray my trust in them, my God never would. And He would help me through even that.
Not terribly original, I know. But it was really nice of Him to give me the reminder of His unfailing love and faithfulness.
