I've been thinking lately about the implications of drifting. You and I have both heard stories of people in boats who found themselves drifting into dangerous waters. How did it happen? They neglected to watch their course, they were inattentive to the signs they should have been looking for, they allowed themselves to be distracted by things or people around them.
The same thing can happen only too easily in our relationship with God. A little inattentiveness leads us a long ways off course. Allowing things and people to distract us means we are no longer paying attention to the important things in life. Neglecting to watch for signs along the way means we will find ourselves a long distance from where we should be.
I don't want to drift.
I want my focus to be fixed.
I want my purpose to be clear.
I want the important things to stay the important things.
I want to keep my destination always in mind.
I want to chart my course with that destination as my compass.
